I've seen one of these on Trade Me (NZ ebay). The seller says that it's one of the original models and not the MK2 but hasn't said how old it actually is.
Anybody any idea how long this model was in production and, assuming it's in good order (which he says it is) how much it might be worth second hand? |

I paid $375Ca for one and took it back because it had a high pitched whine. That was a great price and had I known then that hard drives are interchangeable, I probably would have kept it.

$375!!!! That seems like a very good price - even if there was something wrong with it.
Even allowing for the exchange rate variations that only equates to NZ$800 at most. This guy's looking for at least $1500!!! He reckons it's about 3 years old. Does that tie in with when this model was available? |

This was a couple of months ago. I took it back, bought the Korg and joined this forum the same day.I could have bought the brand new Tascam Neo for the same price but I bought the Korg for its preamps and various features. Get a Neo, DB unless you want 8 XLRs in which case, Korg D3200. Nice to see you're being patient with your search.

When it comes to things like this I always tend to do as much research as possible before finally taking the plunge! After all, I've lived with my old D8 for 10 years now and although it has some serious limitations, these can also help me focus on what I'm actually playing and recording so in some ways the limitations are a good thing!
But I know that if I want to continue to do more recording then I need more tracks and memory to allow me some more options so I need something bigger/better/newer. My gut reaction is that the D3200 is the one for me but I'll check out all options before committing to it. Thanks for your comments so far. |

I own a 2488 original model. I loved working with it, but I use computers now. I tried to buy one for a friend recently and we paid about $400.00 US dollars, but it was faulty. I've treated mine with kid gloves and I am considering selling it for about $450.00. Hope that helps you. It's a really good machine. The fan motors are really quiet. When I was in my studio (basically a bedroom emptied out about three rooms away) I could hear the clock ticking in the kitchen. Then when I actually walked into the kitchen, I could barely hear it. That's what sold me on the sensitivity of the open mic settings. I can record great music with mine. I'd buy one if I were you unless you want to go computer. In that case, I'd recommend the Sonar stuff, I use 6 PE, but there are a lot of ways to go. Some people like Pro Tools, because they have a mac computer. I'm not that rich, so I use a PC.
